Founded in the early 1960s for University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University students, the Waterloo Co-operative Residence Incorporated mission statement is: “WCRI aims to provide quality, affordable student housing, emphasizing member participation and superior service in the spirit of Co-operation, while promoting pride, education, and diversity in a dynamic co-operative community.”
The Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada is the national voice of Canada's co-operative housing movement.
This organization gives a good idea of what co-operative principles look like in other areas beside housing. It focuses on co-operative businesses in agriculture, finance, insurance, consumer and supply and service sectors. While it has a different focus, its guiding philosophy is the same, "that people, no matter what economic class or education level, know what's best for them and can work together to meet their own needs."
International Co-operative Alliance. An independent, non-governmental association uniting, representing and serving co-operatives world wide. Its aims are the promotion and protection of co-operative values and principles by providing information to members and other organizations about co-op development around the world.
